Sandy Lane grew up in Hawaii where color, light and atmosphere melt into unlimited combinations of breathtaking beauty. It is not surprising then, that from a very young age, painting became her passion. She longed to express on canvas the unique way in which she saw her world.
Sandy graduated from university with a degree in art education. She taught school to pay the bills but knew that one day she would be given the chance to paint her visions. She and her husband then moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she raised her family, illustrated a children's book, and started taking classes at Scottsdale Artist School. She studied under many of the known artists of the day. She was encouraged by her teachers to begin entering her work in jurired shows around the country and began winning acclaim for some of her work. Her passion for painting has only grown over the years. "In every subject there is always something unique that tells a story. The tilt of the head, the way the light defines the face, the composition of a still life... something, that will describe its essence. It is in that way my subjects always pick me. There is always a thrill at the beginning of a new painting that, if I am true to that original vision, produces great satisfaction in me and, I trust, great joy in the viewer."
