As a high school student, in 1978 Tim started a photographic apprenticeship with a portrait studio in his hometown of Oxford, Mississippi. In 1984 he received a degree in photography from the University of Southern Mississippi. Since 1983 his portraits have won numerous state and national awards. In 1992 and 1993 he was awarded the prestigious Kodak Gallery Award which saluted technical execution and visual impact in the photographic arts. He was awarded Mississippi Photographer of the year in 1989. T.G. McCary Photography was voted "2007 best photographic studio", by the readers of the Natchez Democrat. Tim is past president of the Natchez Kiwanis Club, past president of the Professional Photographers of Mississippi and Alabama. He is a Certified Craftsman member of Professional Photographers of America and holds both the PPMA Service and Fellowship degrees.
